Serial Gas Station Robber Arrested
A 21-year-old Hamilton man appeared in court on Wednesday to answer to criminal charges related to a series of gas station robberies on the mountain.
On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a lone male suspect entered a gas station located in the area of Stone Church Road East and Upper Gage. He approached the counter and made a demand for money and merchandise from the staff. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency the suspect fled.
On Friday, May 22, 2020, shortly before 2:00 a.m., a lone male suspect entered a gas station located in the area of Upper James Street and Alderlea Avenue. He approached the counter and made a demand for money and merchandise from the staff. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency the suspect fled. Two days later, the gas station was again robbed in the same fashion.
During the three robberies, the suspect was in possession of a knife; however, no one was physically injured.
The Hamilton Police BEAR Unit has continued to investigate these incidents. After reviewing evidence, detectives believe one male was responsible. A search warrant application was submitted to the courts. On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the warrant was executed at a Hamilton residence. The suspect was arrested and appeared at his bail hearing later that day.
The BEAR Unit has maintained carriage of this investigation and continues to review other incidents for any similarities.
