Serious Assault Upgraded to Attempt Murder

An East End parking lot altercation has left a Hamilton resident with serious neck and face injuries. The initial Aggravated Assault charge has been upgraded to Attempt Murder.

On Saturday, May 30, 2020, shortly before 9:00 p.m., an altercation occurred between two males in the Bottoms Up Bar & Grill parking lot on Barton Street East in Hamilton. A 32-year-old male received serious injuries to his face and neck by a knife. The assailant fled the scene on foot but was located several blocks away by uniform officers. At this time he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Weapons Offences and Breach of Probation.

The victim was located and transported to the hospital in serious condition.

On Monday, June 8, 2020, further evidence was received resulting in the case to be transferred to the Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit. The accused of No Fixed Address appeared in court by video on June 9, 2020, and charged with Attempt Murder. He remains in custody.

On June 10th and 11th, 2020, the City of Hamilton Public Works assisted police by recovering the weapon in a sewer area close by to the offence.
