Smashing Glass Alerts Homeowner to Vehicle Theft

Hamilton Police arrest two youths after a vehicle was stolen from a driveway in East Hamilton.

On January 30, 2019, shortly after 1:00 a.m. a resident living on Pottruff Road North in Hamilton awoke to the sound of breaking glass inside his home. The homeowner looked outside his window to find that his 2017 Toyota RAV4 was being stolen from his driveway.

Police received the 911 call within minutes. Plainclothes officers working close by heard the dispatched call and located the vehicle travelling on Walter Avenue North and Roxborough Avenue in Hamilton. Police safely followed the vehicle to Ottawa Avenue North and Barton Street East where they were able to strategically block the vehicle from moving. The arrests were made 20 minutes from the time of the initial 911 call.

Police arrested both occupants inside the car, identifying them as a 16-year-old male from Hamilton and a 17-year-old male from Brampton.

The youths were brought into custody and now face several criminal charges for theft, possession and breach of probation.
