Two Arrested from RHVP Speed Enforcement

On Thursday, July 25, 2019, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a Hamilton Police officer was conducting stationary northbound speed enforcement on the Redhill Valley Parkway at Greenhill Avenue.

At that time a black Acura SUV was observed travelling considerably faster than other traffic. Through an investigation, it was learned the vehicle was operating at 104 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. The vehicle exited on the King Street off-ramp where a traffic stop was conducted. The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and female passenger. The driver immediately exited the vehicle, became belligerent and then fled on foot up the embankment. The female remained in the vehicle and was subsequently arrested. A perimeter was set-up and a short time later the driver was located and arrested in the rear yard of a residence in the area of Montmorency Drive and Lanscott Place. He had discarded some of his clothing in an attempt to alter his appearance.

The 24-year-old male from Hamilton was taken into police custody. An investigation into his identity revealed he was bound by a probation order and his arrest signified a violation to that order. He was advised of the criminal charges of theft and possession of stolen property over $5000 and two counts of breach of probation.

An investigation into the female’s identity revealed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant with the Hamilton Police Service for break and enter and obstruct police.

Both parties were held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear in court today to answer to the charges.

The black Acura SUV was recently reported stolen from a neighbouring police agency. The registered owner was advised of the vehicle’s recovery and it was held for an examination.
