Two Stunt Drivers Nabbed Over the Weekend

Two males had their driver’s licence and vehicle seized for seven days after they were caught stunt driving in separate incidents. They are scheduled to appear in court in mid-October, where if found guilty they will face more severe penalties.

On Sunday, September 15, 2019, shortly after 11:30 p.m., while travelling southbound on Highway 52 near Concession 2, Flamborough, police observed a Toyota Camry that appeared to be travelling more than the posted speed limit.

Through investigation, police learned the vehicle was travelling at 129 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 20-year-old Cambridge man with a G2 class licence, provided the appropriate documentation.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, by way of court summons, to answer to the charges.

On Saturday, September 14, 2019, shortly after 4:00 p.m., a white Mercedes sedan was observed travelling westbound on Rymal Road near Fletcher Road, Hamilton.

The vehicle’s speed appeared to be more than the posted speed limit.

Through investigation, police learned the vehicle was travelling at 110 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 24-year-old Stoney Creek man with a G class licence, provided the appropriate documentation.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, by way of court summons, to answer to the charges.

In accordance with the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, stunt driving violations result in an immediate seven-day driver’s licence suspension and vehicle impoundment for the same period.

If found guilty in court, the penalties for stunt driving could include a fine between $2000 - $10,000, up to six months in jail and a two-year licence suspension.
