UPDATE – Drugs and Speed Caused Motorcycle Fatality

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has concluded its investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision from the summer of 2019.

On July 23, 2019, shortly before midnight, a black 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling westbound on Industrial Drive near Gage Avenue North at a high rate of speed when it exited the roadway and collided with a rock face on the north side of the road. The 25-year-old rider from Hamilton was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. No other persons were involved.

The investigation determined that the motorcycle rider had been travelling at a high rate of speed and the toxicology report had readings of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) above the legal limit.

The investigation has been concluded that speed and driver impairment were contributing factors in this collision.
