Youth Arrested for Stealing Truck

On April 1, 2019, Hamilton Police commenced an investigation into a stolen auto. A short time later a suspect was identified. Police located the male the following day and he was arrested and charged. He will appear in court on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

On Monday, April 1, 2019, shortly after 7:30 p.m., the owner of a Ford pick-up truck left her vehicle running, to warm up in front of her residence in the area of Chestnut Avenue and Barton Street East. A short time later, a male entered the vehicle and drove away while being chased by a witness who was on foot. Police responded to the area and through investigation gathered suspect information.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, shortly after 11:30 a.m., police received learned the suspect from the truck theft was possibly in the area of King William Street and Wellington Street North. The suspect was located and arrested without incident. The keys to the truck were found after the suspect made attempts to discard them. The truck was later located and returned to the owner.

A further investigation into the driver revealed he was bound by a court order.

An additional charge was laid in relation to the order.

A 16-year-old male from Hamilton will appear in court on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, to answer to the charges.

Hamilton Police are reminding vehicle drivers not to leave their vehicle unattended with the keys.
