Driver Suffers Fatal Injuries in Three Vehicle Collision

Hamilton Police investigating the fourth driving fatality for 2021.

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, shortly after 5:30 p.m., Hamilton Police and emergency service partners responded to the area of Centennial Parkway South and King Street East for a three-vehicle collision.

Through investigation police determined a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV was travelling northbound on Centennial Parkway approaching King Street East, when it struck the rear of a 2016 Kia Sorento sedan, that was stopped at the intersection traffic lights. The collision forced the Kia into the rear of a 2014 Jeep Patriot.

Both occupants of the Kia were transported to the hospital and are being treated for their minor injuries. The occupants in the Jeep were uninjured. The occupants in the Equinox were transported to the hospital with critical injuries. A short time later, the driver of the Equinox, Mario Tocco, a 43-year-old Hamilton man succumbed to his injuries.

Speed and driver impairment have not yet been ruled out as contributing factors in the collision.
