Hamilton Police Investigate Double Homicide

Hamilton Police are investigating a double homicide in Stoney Creek after a male shot two individuals in a landlord-tenant dispute.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, Hamilton Police responded to 322 Jones Road in Stoney Creek and found two deceased victims. A 27-year-old female and 28-year-old male were both tenants at the residence.

The 57-year-old landlord barricaded himself in the residence with firearms that were registered to him. Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit contained the area, while negotiators engaged in contact with the male in an attempt to peacefully resolve the incident.

At one point during the negotiations, the suspect fired at the Hamilton Police armoured vehicle. The suspect later fired additional rounds, which resulted in an interaction with police.

The Special Investigations Unit has been contact and has invoked their mandate. There is no longer a threat to public safety.

Families of both victims have been notified. At this time, the victims’ names will not be released.

Several witnesses have already been interviewed by the Homicide Unit and have been cooperative. Police continue to appeal for more witnesses. If you have any information, please contact Detective Robert DiIanni at 905-546-3836.
