Two Correctional Officers Charged

As a result of information gleaned through a joint intelligence-sharing initiative between the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre and the Hamilton Police Service Intelligence Unit, two former correction officers were arrested and charged.

This investigation group was formed as a result of the Coroner’s inquest into the overdose deaths inside the detention centre. The Hamilton Police Service Intelligence Unit and the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre jointly conducted a six-month investigation in relation to two Correctional Officers distributing illicit cannabis as well as other contraband to inmates within the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre.

As a result of the investigation, former Correctional Officers James Mcrae and Pierre-Luc Plouffe were charged. Both worked independently of one another to distribute contraband within the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre and are no longer employed as Correctional Officers.

Charged: James Mcrae (male, 30-years-old) resident of Kitchener

  • Breach of Trust by Public Officer
  • Distribute Illicit Cannabis

Charged: Pierre-Luc Plouffe (male, 39-year-old) resident of Delhi

  • Breach of Trust by Public Officer
  • Distribute Illicit Cannabis
