Wanted Person Jamie Dryden Arrested

Hamilton Police have arrested Jamie Dryden who was wanted in connection with a shooting in Hamilton last month.

On January 31, 2020, shortly before 10:00 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a suspicious male in the area of Barton St East and Ottawa Street North. As officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot. When officers pursued the suspect, he brandished a firearm and fired multiple gunshots in the direction of officers.

Officers continued to chase after the suspect and as they caught up to him, he positioned a female between himself and the officers to deter his arrest. He was last seen in the area of Britannia Avenue.

Hours later, police received information that a resident in the area confronted a male she discovered on her property. A physical altercation occurred and the male fled on foot. The resident received minor injuries. Police believe the incidents are related.

After a two-week investigation conducted by the Hamilton Police Service Division 20 Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the Hamilton Police Intelligence Unit, Forensic Unit, the Provincial ROPE squad, the Ontario Provincial Police Service, Brantford Police Service, Niagara Regional Police Service and other neighboring police agencies. Investigators gathered evidence that led them to an address in the Brier Park area in Brantford.

On February 14, 2020, at approximately 8:00 a.m., investigators attended the Briar Park area and executed two Judicial Authorized warrants for Dryden's arrest. The Hamilton Police Service Emergency Response unit with the assistance of the Brantford Police Service, Niagara Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service and other neighbouring police services safely executed the arrest warrant. As a precaution, area schools were placed into hold and secure due to the risk posed by Dryden. With the support of police negotiators, Dryden was safely arrested before midnight and returned to Hamilton.

The Hamilton Police Service would like to thank the public and our partner agencies for their assistance. The investigation is ongoing and investigators anticipate laying additional charges in the investigation.
