Fourth Person Charged After Hamilton Pride Altercation

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged an individual for assault with a weapon after the altercation at the Hamilton Pride Festival on June 15, 2019.

In the middle of the park, away from the main Hamilton Pride festivities, officers located a large disturbance between two groups of individuals. Numerous people were engaged in a physical confrontation where several individuals received injuries. Police separated both groups and they were escorted off the property.

The following individual is facing two charges of Assault With a Weapon:

Christopher Vanderweide, 27, from Kitchener

His bail has been opposed.

This marks the fourth individual charged related to the altercation in Gage Park. This includes one individual who was arrested for a parole violation for participating in a public demonstation where peace was disrupted and two individuals who turned themselves into police as a result of breaching probation for participating in a demonstration that was not peaceful.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate the events at Hamilton’s Pride celebration. Police continue to encourage victims and witnesses to come forward to further the investigation, with the possibility of laying additional charges. We thank those individuals who have shared what they witnessed with police.
