Drug Dealer Arrested

A 19-year-old Hamilton man will appear in court today to answer to drug trafficking charges after a proactive police investigation.

On Thursday, June 20, 2019, shortly after midnight, police were proactively patrolling the area of Bayfront Park for criminal activity. Anybody located in that area would be in violation of the city by-law which states access is prohibited after 11:00 p.m. At that time youths were observed hanging around a Mazda 3 car. As police approached they attempted to enter the vehicle. A conversation was initiated with the group as one of the males fled. Efforts to locate the male were not successful.

A short time later the male was seen walking in the rear parking lot of 235 Rebecca Street. Attempts were once again made to converse with the male who immediately fled. He was caught on Wilson Street near Cathcart Street. He was detained in relation to the city by-law violation.

The male verbally identified himself and an investigation revealed he was bound by a Recognizance order which he was violating. He was placed under arrest and when searched he was found to be in possession of illicit drugs and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency. He was advised of the additional charges related to the drugs.

The 19-year-old male will appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse today.
