Hamilton Police Continue to Investigate School Stabbing Death

Hamilton Police Major Crime investigators continue to investigate the death of 14-year-old Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School student Devan Selvey.

The 16-year-old male and a 16-year-old female who were arrested yesterday have been released unconditionally. Investigators continue to work through the evidence but are not seeking additional suspects in relation to Devan’s death.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday morning confirming Devan was killed as a result of a stab wound.

The scene was released just after midnight early this morning.

Investigators are aware of an incident involving the victim and the theft of a bike. At this time, there is no evidence linking the accused in the stabbing to the earlier September bike theft.

A 14-year-old male and 18-year-old male, both from Hamilton, have been charged with first degree murder. There is a court-ordered publication ban on releasing the name of the adult male accused and under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified.
