UPDATE - Hamilton Police Investigating Hamilton's 9th Homicide

The Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit detectives continue to investigate the city’s 9th homicide.

An 18-year-old male and 14-year-old male, both from Hamilton, will be charged with 1st-degree murder. They will appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse, 45 Main Street East later today to answer to the charge.

Under the regulations of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified.

A third male youth was arrested last night at approximately 6:00 p.m. He was interviewed and later released unconditionally once his involvement in the investigation was established.

The name of the victim will not be released at this time.

The weapon used in the incident has not been recovered. Residents in the area who find anything suspicious on their property are urged not to touch the item but to contact 9-1-1 immediately.

Hamilton Police officers will remain in the area for the majority of the day processing evidence and canvassing. Police will continue to work with Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School and the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. Grief counsellors will be available for those affected by the incident.
