Off Duty Officer Charged With Assault

On July 14, 2020 at approximately 4 p.m., the Surete du Québec attended a commercial premises in the area of Otter Lake, Québec. A verbal altercation had taken place earlier between two males over alleged damage to property but continued when one of the males re-attended the area.

As a result of a subsequent assault complaint, the Surete du Québec arrested an off-duty 22-year-member of the Hamilton Police Service. The  member was released from custody and is scheduled to have his matter addressed on October 13, 2020 at the Courthouse located at 30 rue John Campbell’s Bay in Québec. The other individual involved in this matter is also facing charges pertaining to the altercation. 

Constable Jeff Coleman is charged with Assault Level One.

Hamilton Police Service will also be conducting an investigation under the Police Services Act.
