One Charged In Friday Afternoon Demonstration

A male has been arrested in relation to a demonstration that took place on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Hamilton’s City Hall.

The demonstration was in response to escalating tensions, in the Israel and Palestine conflict.

Similar protests are scheduled to occur this weekend in several cities across Southern Ontario including Hamilton.

The demonstration involved pedestrians and motor vehicles.

The driver of a motor vehicle involved in the demonstration operated their vehicle in a dangerous manner and was arrested.

Main Street West was closed for a short period of time for the safety of the demonstrators and the general public.

Hamilton Police continue to investigate these events.

Hamilton Police are reminding the public that participation in such events could result in charges being laid pursuant to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

Under current COVID-19 restrictions residents are encouraged to stay at home, maintain a two metre distance (six feet) from others, wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible, wash hands frequently with soap and water, and cover coughs or sneezes with your sleeve or a tissue to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
