Police Investigate Shooting in Laneway

A laneway shooting incident has sent a male in his late teens to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Police continue to investigate.

On Thursday, June 9, 2020, shortly before 9:00 p.m., Hamilton Police were dispatched to the area of Barton Street East and Birch Avenue, for a report of a shooting incident. While responding to the call, officers located three, teen males walking in the area of Stirton Street and Cannon Street East. They learned the males were friends and one of them was suffering from a non-life-threatening lower-body injury. The injury was believed to have been caused by a bullet. The male was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Through continued investigation, police have determined a disturbance involving a group of teens occurred in a laneway in the original dispatched area. At that time, one of the males discharged a firearm.

Hamilton Police later identified three other males believed to have been involved in the incident. They were taken into police custody and are facing charges unrelated to the incident.

The victim is not cooperating with police.

Detectives from the Division One Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate the incident and are asking area residents to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity and to contact police.
