Cattle Truck Collision Snarls Traffic on the RHVP

Hamilton Police investigated a motor vehicle collision involving a transport truck and Volkswagen Jetta in the area of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and Mud Street. The transport truck collided with the Volkswagen causing it to leave the roadway. Through investigation, police identified several violations involving the transport truck driver. He was charged accordingly.

On Monday, April 1, 2019, shortly after 5:30 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and Mud Street for a motor vehicle collision between a transport truck and a car. Moments before the collision, the truck was travelling eastbound on the Linc, when the driver lost control and made contact with a grey Volkswagen Jetta. The Jetta left the roadway, ending up in a ditch. The truck continued northbound on the RHVP and stopped at the Greenhill exit.

Several drivers stopped to render assistance as the driver of the Jetta received minor injuries.

An investigation into the transport truck driver and his vehicle revealed the existence of several violations to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. Additionally, the collision was determined to be as a result of driver error.

The transport truck was carrying 38 Hosteen cows and it was determined to be unfit for the road. A private company was called in to assist with the cargo and the removal of the truck. No animals were injured during the incident.

The driver was issued several summonses and will appear in court on Monday, April 29, 2019, to answer to the charges.

During the course of the investigation lane closures were implemented causing traffic delays in both directions.

Emergency Service partners including the Ministry of Transportation assisted with the investigation.
