Hamilton Man Arrested After Early Morning Assault

A 30-year-old Hamilton man was taken into police custody this morning after allegedly assaulting a female overnight. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 2, 2020.

On Friday, May 1, 2020, shortly before 2:00 a.m., Hamilton Police attended a residence in the area of Munroe Street and Hillyard Street for reports of an assault that had just occurred. The victim, a 26-year-old female had left the residence and the suspect was believed to be inside.

Uniform officers immediately responded and learned there was a possibility a firearm was involved in the incident. Considering that information, additional support was requested and provided by Tactical Officers and Crisis Negotiators. With the residence secured, efforts were made to engage the suspect.

Shortly after 7: 00 a.m., officers established a verbal connection with the suspect and a short time later he voluntarily exited the residence without incident. He was taken into police custody and later released. He is scheduled to have his matter addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Thursday, July 2, 2020.

The victim received minor injuries from the incident but did not require medical treatment.

Through continued investigation, police determined a firearm was not involved in the incident.
