Male Attempts to Steal Cab while Cabby Still Inside

An intoxicated male tries to steal cab after assaulting a person inside a local establishment.

On May 25, 2018, shortly before 1:00 a.m., police were called to a disturbance at 592 Upper James Street, Hamilton.

When officers arrived, witnesses identified the assaultive male leaving in a cab. Police pulled the cab over a short distance away. When police started to approach the cab, the suspect jumped from the rear seat into the front passenger seat, making verbal threats towards the officers. The suspect then jumped and sat on top of the cabby while attempting to steal the car. The cabby struggled to free himself from underneath the suspect, while pulling the keys out of the ignition. Police quickly gained control of the suspect and place him under arrest.

The victim inside the bar received minor injuries and the cab driver was not injured.

Charged: 33-year-old man from Hamilton - NFA (No fixed address)
