Police Continue to Seek Witnesses to Ancaster Homicide

Hamilton Police continue to appeal for witnesses to last night’s homicide in Ancaster.

On September 13, 2018, at approximately 9:55 p.m., police received a 911 call about a shooting at 32 Sunflower Crescent in Ancaster. Police arrived to find the 50-year-old homeowner in the front entrance suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Despite lifesaving efforts by Hamilton Paramedics, the male was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Albert Iavarone. Police believe this was a targeted attack.

Mr. Iavarone has no criminal record but is known to police as he is associated with individuals involved in Hamilton’s traditional organized crime. The motive is not known at this time and police are in the early stages of the investigation, but will be looking at any potential connections to organized crime.

Police believe the shooter arrived from the south entrance of Sunflower Crescent, maneuvered his silver motor vehicle and parked it facing the direction he entered. The suspect got out of the vehicle and concealed himself in nearby bushes for an extended period of time. When Mr. Iavarone arrived home, the suspect left his hiding spot and shot Mr. Iavarone before fleeing in his vehicle.

At this time, police do not have a suspect or vehicle description but believe the suspect is male and driving a silver-coloured vehicle.

Police are currently canvassing the neighbourhood and have secured video from the area. Anyone with information or video footage is encouraged to contact Detective Jason Cattle at 905-546-4167.
