Pre-dawn Raids Net 13 Arrests for Illegal Drugs

Hamilton Police Service Vice and Drugs Unit, with the support of members from the task force to address gun violence and drug trafficking, arrested 13 individuals from across Hamilton and seized a large quantity of illegal drugs.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on February 21, 2019, Hamilton Police Service executed 13 search warrants, including the search of two vehicles and several hotel rooms. During the search, Hamilton Police seized a large quantity of “Purple Heroin” (mix of fentanyl and heroin), cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription pills valued at $139,500. Police also identified over $20,000 of Canadian currency believed to be the proceeds of crime, as well as scales, money counters and other items associated with drug trafficking.

Hamilton has seen an increase in the number of shootings since the beginning of January 2019, which have mostly been attributed to drug trafficking. Hamilton Police remain committed to addressing gun violence and the illegal drug trade through its newly formed Make Safe task force.

“Getting these drugs off the streets is a good start but we’re not done,” says Superintendent Ryan Diodati. “We appreciate the public assistance so far and we continue to encourage the public to come forward with information. Together, we can make sure Hamilton remains a safe place for everyone.”
