Proactive Traffic Stop Catches another Drug Dealer

A Hamilton Police officer on proactive patrol investigated the suspicious actions of a driver and discovered he was violating a court order and one of his passengers was in possession of illicit drugs for the purpose of trafficking. Both parties were arrested and are scheduled for court appearances.

On Sunday, June 2, 2019, shortly after 11:00 p.m., while on proactive patrol, a police officer was travelling west on King Street East near Wentworth Street North behind a white Volkswagen Jetta. The male driver noticed the presence of the police vehicle and began to make a hasty lane change. At the same time, a female passenger sitting in the rear seat area became very fidgety. A traffic stop was initiated and the three occupants identified themselves by various means. The strong odour of cannabis was detected from the vehicle’s cabin.

Through investigation, police learned a court order was in effect that prohibited the driver from being in the company of one of the female passengers. He was arrested and removed from the vehicle. During the process, police observed a clear baggie containing cocaine at the driver’s feet while he was standing outside the vehicle. He was placed in a police car and when the officer returned to the Jetta, the rear female passenger was observed stuffing small bags of Cannabis into her purse. She was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

Further investigation, revealed the female was in possession of Cannabis, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, cash, and drug paraphernalia.

The female was taken into police custody and later released with a scheduled court date of Wednesday, June 17, 2019, to answer to several charges.

The second female passenger was released unconditionally at the scene.

The male is scheduled to appear in court today for a bail hearing.

The Volkswagen Jetta was a rental and was seized by police to be returned to the rental company.
