Handgun and Drugs Seized after Traffic Stop

Hamilton Police while conducting proactive patrol observed a driver violate the Highway Traffic Act and conducted a traffic stop. Through investigation police located a handgun, Cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency. The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, to answer to the charges.

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, shortly before 10:00 p.m., police were conducting proactive patrol in the area of King William Street and Victoria Avenue North, Hamilton. At that time, the driver of a Hyundai Sonata was observed conducting a violation to the Highway Traffic Act.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and police noted the passenger was not wearing his seatbelt. Through investigation, it was believed the passenger was not being truthful about his identity. Additional information led to the identification of the passenger who was in violation of a court order. He was advised he was under arrest and after a brief foot pursuit, was secured. He was found to be in possession of items raising suspicion of criminal activity. Police subsequently located a loaded, prohibited handgun inside the vehicle. The driver was then also arrested.

The vehicle was seized for further investigation. As a result, police located a quantity of illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Both males were in attendance in court on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, to answer to the charges.
