Hamilton Police have arrested and charged two men following a brazen daylight carjacking that left a 62-year-old woman injured.

On Monday, September 28, 2026, at approximately 8:38 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to a shopping plaza at 86 Mall Road after receiving reports that a woman had been attacked and her vehicle stolen.

The victim had just arrived at the plaza and was removing items from her vehicle when she was approached by two males.

One of the males grabbed the victim’s purse and demanded her vehicle keys. During the struggle, the victim was placed in a headlock and thrown to the ground before the suspects took her purse and fled in her vehicle.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

The stolen vehicle was equipped with GPS tracking, allowing police to quickly track its movements through the city.

Approximately 15 minutes after the carjacking, officers located the vehicle at a gas station on King Street. As officers moved in, the driver fled in the stolen vehicle, striking a marked police cruiser in the process. The passenger attempted to flee on foot but was arrested by officers following a short foot pursuit.

Police continued tracking the stolen vehicle and located it abandoned a short time later in the area of Belmont Avenue. Officers located the second suspect nearby and placed him under arrest.

As a result of the investigation, Hamilton Police have charged:

Abdulrahman ALI, 21, of Hamilton:

• Robbery
• Motor Vehicle Theft with Violence Used
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 x2
• Disguise with Intent
• Fraud Under $5,000

Hussain Yahya JAWAD, 23, of Hamilton:

• Robbery
• Motor Vehicle Theft with Violence Used
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Dangerous Operation
• Fail to Comply with Release Order

Both accused were held for a bail hearing.
