Update - Second Suspect Arrested in Barton Street Shooting

23-year-old Tyrell Edwards-Lafleur has been arrested in relation to a February 22, 2019, Barton Street shooting.

Edwards-Lafleur, who is from Toronto, was arrested on the morning of Monday, March 18, 2019, at a hotel in Markham by York Regional Police, who were acting upon information provided by the HPS Major Crime Unit. He is charged with: Attempt Murder with Firearm, Robbery with Firearm, Possession Contrary to Order, Point Firearm and Intimidation.

UPDATE: Barton Street Shooting

For immediate release: Monday, February 25, 2019

Hamilton, ON

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, Hamilton Police Service officers were dispatched to the area of 394 Barton Street East for a shooting that had just occurred.

The investigation revealed that Noah Hope and Tyrell Edwards-Lafleur attended a residence in the area. The victim arrived a short time later and also went into the residence. Hope and Edwards-Lafleur began to assault the victim in the process of robbing him. Edwards-Lafleur produced a handgun and shot the victim through the chest. This bullet went through the victim and into Hope. During the course of this incident, Edwards-Lafleur also pointed the firearm at a witness.

23-year-old Noah Hope was located by police near the corner of Smith and Barton Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Hope, who is from the Ottawa area, was charged with Robbery with Firearm and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He was remanded into custody upon his discharge from the hospital.
