UPDATE: Barton Street Shooting

Hamilton Police continue to appeal for witnesses to a shooting on Barton Street on Friday evening. 

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, Hamilton Police were dispatched to the area of 394 Barton Street East (between Smith Avenue and Leeming Street) for a shooting that had just occurred.

Patrol officers responded quickly. One 23-year-old male and one 26-year-old male were conveyed to hospital, each suffering from a single gunshot wound. Both males are currently listed as stable with non-life-threatening injuries. The 23-year-old male is currently in police custody.

The Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit and the Make Safe Shooting Task Force are investigating this matter, it has been determined that this is a targeted shooting.

Area residents and business owners in the area with video surveillance cameras are requested to check their systems for any suspicious people or vehicles between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 - Particularly in the area of Barton Street East between Smith Avenue and Leeming Street, and on Smith Avenue between Barton Street East and Cannon Street East.
