Cyclist Fatally Injured in Downtown Collision

On Thursday, September 28, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Hamilton Emergency Services were called for a collision at the corner of York Blvd and James St. North in the City’s downtown core.  

A male cyclist was eastbound on York Blvd approaching James St North when he was struck by the driver of a commercial motor vehicle that was turning right onto James St from York. The cyclist was pronounced at the scene. The driver of the commercial motor vehicle remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators. 

The HPS Collision Reconstruction Unit was called in and has taken carriage of the investigation. The affected stretch of York and James was closed for several hours for the investigation.

The cyclist had no identification on him and Investigators are working with the Coroner’s office to identify the male.

This is the City’s 11th fatality of 2023 and the first involving a cyclist.
