On September 27, 2024 Hamilton Police learned of several threatening online posts directed towards the Jewish community. The Hate Crime Unit began investigating the posts and discovered they were created by a 32-year-old Harley Mitchell from Hamilton. On October 1, 2024, Investigators arrested Harley Mitchell for the following:

1. Utter threats to cause death x 1
2. Fail to comply probation x 1

Investigators continued to review the online posts made by Harley Mitchell and completed a comprehensive submission to the Office of the Attorney General for review and approval of additional charges of the following:

1. Advocating genocide x 1
2. Wilful promotion of hatred x 1
3. Wilful promotion of antisemitism x 1

After receiving approval from the Office of the Attorney General, on Wednesday, January 30, 2025 Investigators charged Mr. Mitchell with the previously mentioned hate propaganda offences. The original charges of utter threats to cause death and failing to comply with their probation will remain.

Hate has no place in Hamilton.
