UPDATE: Suspicious Death Investigation

Investigators from the Major Crime Unit worked throughout the weekend on the death of 24-year-old Kyle Richardson. Over the course of the weekend, investigators were able to account for Richardson's whereabouts for the entire evening prior to his death. A Blue Line taxi was located and the driver was cooperative with the investigation.

An autopsy was conducted at 8:00 a.m. at the Hamilton General Hospital and was concluded by early afternoon. The results of the autopsy reveal Richardson was not the victim of a homicide. Detectives learned that Richardson, for unknown reasons, climbed the side of a slowly moving salt truck that was salting the ramp of the emergency area of Juravinski Hospital. Unbeknownst to the driver, Richardson either fell or jumped off, resulting in the truck running over Richardson. Due to the size of the truck, the driver would not have known he injured Richardson. The driver later observed Richardson on the driveway of the emergency area and summoned for help. No camera at the hospital captured this incident in its entirety and investigators have viewed all available cameras.

The family has requested privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Hamilton Police Service Traffic Reconstruction Unit for further investigation.

If you have any information that you believe could assist Police with the investigation, you are asked to contact Detective Constable Vandercraats at 905-546-4755 or 905-546-4753.
