Effective Friday, April 1, 2022, fees for volunteer Criminal Records Checks (CRCs) and Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Checks (CRJMCs) will be eliminated. In addition, individual fees for Criminal Records Checks (CRCs) and Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Checks (CRJMCs) for employment will be replaced with one fee of $50 for Employment Background Checks. 

What does this means for people seeking background checks at HPS? 

· If you are a volunteer, and you have a letter from the agency that you are volunteering for explaining that you require a Criminal Record Check (CRC) or a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC), we will provide that product, free of charge. 
· If you require a Vulnerable Sector Check for your volunteer position, a fee of $25 will apply. 
· Please note that student placements do not fall under the definition of “volunteer.” 
· If you are seeking a background check for employment in any of the categories: Criminal Record Check (CRC), Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC), and Vulnerable Sector Check (VS), a $50 fee will apply. 

If you choose to use our online background check process, there is an additional convenience fee of $9.95 for any of the background checks. This is paid directly to the online provider and is not subject to the elimination of fees that come into effect on April 1, 2022.
