Public Awareness: Be Proactive and Stay Safe

As spring brings on the warmer weather, it also makes for an optimal environment for criminals to commit crimes. Police want to remind the community to be proactive and follow the 9PM Routine.

  • Remove valuables and garage door opener from vehicles
  • Lock vehicles
  • Close overhead garage door
  • Lock door between garage and house
  • Close and lock all external doors
  • Ensure windows are shut and locked
  • Turn on an exterior light

Having a 9PM Routine is a great way to reduce the risk of becoming a victim to property crime.

We also encourage neighbours to look out for one another and to report all incidents of suspicious activity and of course report crimes, so they can be investigated and tracked. Remember, “If you see something, say something”.

Hamilton Police Service uses this important information as we look into these crimes and deploy resources accordingly to better serve our community. It is important to recognize that criminals find it difficult to operate in neighbourhoods where citizens take an active role in preventing crime.

If you have any information that you believe could assist Police with residential and vehicle entries occurring in your neighbourhood, please contact the Division 3 Crime Manager’s office at 905-540-5142.
